On February 10th, with the help of Pomfret Alumni Career Exploration Series (PACES) program, Pomfret School held its first Career Expo for the junior and senior classes. Starting with a meeting in Hard Auditorium, from 7:00 to 9:30 PM students attended three sessions that matched their career interests. There were over 18 topics offered including advocacy law, performing arts, marketing, education, and sports. More than 35 alumni came back to Pomfret to share their experiences of life after graduating Pomfret. Listening to the alumni, students were able to get answers for their questions and learned of ways to prepare for their future career. After attending three sessions of Career Expo, Ceci Hayssen ’12 said, “As a senior, it is comforting to know there are a lot of opportunities after Pomfret.” Inspired by stories and anecdotes provided by alumni, Emma Perlwitz ’12 commented, “It helps me realize that there’s no specific, or right, path to a successful career.”
After the sessions, students headed back to Hard Auditorium with the hope of winning a free kindle, which were generously donated by Mr. George Santiago ’75, who is currently working as a senior account executive at Amazon. With Mr. Richards picking from a basket, Izzy Regine ‘13, and John Landenberger ’12 were the lucky winners. In order to show his appreciation, John publicly thanked Mr. Santiago at the podium.
Feeling that the event was a great success, Ms. Tammie LaBonte, director of stewardship and donor relations, remarked, “In the eleven years I’ve been here, I have found Pomfret alumni gracious and willing to give back in so many ways. They were very happy to come back and share their experiences and expertise, and they really enjoyed connecting with the students.” Ms. LaBonte is also planning for Pomfret’s 2012 fund raising auction, Hollywood on the Hilltop, which has an offer for two week-long spring/summer wealth management internships, centered around 10 educational meetings, with various successful Wall Street professionals, another opportunity provided by Pomfret alumni to Pomfret students.
